At the very beginning, I like to discuss little about what is Project management?

Definition from PMI:

Project Management is “The application of Knowledge, Skills, Tools and techniques to project activities to meet project requirement.”

Now I will discuss little bit more about the meaning of Knowledge, Skills, Tools and Techniques which are the major component of a project.


What known particular field learned through Education:

Example: Each of us, who involve in project generally have some background Knowledge. Some of us Know about Health Care, some know Telecommunication, some other know Construction or Information technology or any green Project.

Skill :

  • Skill is Particular ability
  • Expertise
  • Ability to doing something well from talent, training and practice


Here tool is some sort of software that help the project manager keeping, organizing & Monitoring all project Activities . For Example: Ms Excel, MS Project


It’s some methodology which help to get the result more easily.

Top Terms used in Project Managers

WBS = Work breakdown structure

It define the scope of project and is a hierarchical and incremental decomposition of the project into phases, deliverables and work packages.


Every Project has some remarkable achievement (Significant time or point of the project schedule), other than achieving one cannot go forward. For a huge project if project manager get the milestone on due time is a great achievement for calibration. For Example- in case of deploying new website, milestone can be

  1. Agreement signature
  2. Development wireframe
  3. Getting Domain name
  4. Getting hosting space on Amazon or any other platform.


It is a component that determine the success or failure of a project. Basically baseline is approved project plan. But when the project progress, different change occur. It may be time change, quality change, Cost change, resource change or so on. Each of the change has impact on Approve Project plan. This change also can be approved by the management. So in a nutshell we can say

Baseline = Approved Project Plan +/- Approved Change

Triple constraint:

Three Major (Time, Scope, Cost) component which impact other component as well as quality. For example, if you increase time they may impact cost , if you reduce scope, that may have impact on time or scope.

Project Life Cycle:



A simple and single phase project have to following process

  2. Planning & Design
  3. Executing
  4. Monitoring and Controlling
  5. Closing

Gantt chart

Ganntt chart is tool that graphically display the schedule information. It includes dates, duration of task including milestone and presented in order of WBS format.


Its stand for Change control board who are the group of representative of stakeholder. They approve, reject and evaluate any change on the project.


People from organization or any other interested party who are directly affected by the execution of the project

Change Management:

Project manager decide who, when and how the change will take place and controlling process of the upcoming impacts

In simple words, to complete a Project one must do Planning, organize & Collect resources, give guideline for executing tasks to archive a specific goal. Every Project have a Start time and End time. To manage all activities during the period efficiently can be described as Project management.
